A Chronology of Gowns and Bird Extinctions from 1500 to the Present

A Chronology of Gowns and Bird Extinctions from 1500 to the Present is the title of this set of 131 drawings that document all the birds that have become extinct worldwide since 1500 as well as 8 drawings of dresses. The bird drawings are placed in chronological order of the date of each species’ extinction. Each 50 or 100 year period of bird extinctions includes a drawing of a dress or gown from the same period.

The piece has been shown in two different configurations: Kenderdine Art Gallery in 2011 (documented here) and Southern Alberta Art Gallery in 2006 (see Lost.Bird.Collecting in EXHIBITIONS section). The entire set of drawings is reproduced in an artist book, also titled A Chronology of Gowns and Bird Extinctions from 1500 to the Present (see PRINTED MATTER section).
