After Us

CASA Gallery, Lethbridge, 2021

The exhibition After Us assembled years of object accumulation. Physical objects from the house and studio included childhood toys and photos collected from the home of my parents who have passed, unused art materials from incomplete projects, and some residue of artistic experiments of artist-colleagues. Accumulated video footage from travels over several years contributed to an immersive installation experience.

The conundrum of personal accumulation and disposal is echoed in the global crisis of waste, one aspect of our massive environmental crisis. Disposal of inherited and personal objects confront us as we begin to consider our own deaths, and are an index to the notion of the collective/ecological death we are facing. The experience of individual grief is echoed in the notion of collective grief, uncertainty and instability of this moment in time.
